The C Word - COURAGE

Well firstly welcome to the very first edition of the YOU DO YOU See You Next Tuesday diaries, we are so honoured that you are here to join us and look forward to you taking this journey with us.

We know what you are thinking, who the heck are you and the YOU DO YOU Crew?

Put simply we are just 3 friends who met through work. It was a quick connection between the three of us and our out there antics, sense of humour (Or as we say you-mer). We bonded over our love of Kath N Kim, inappropriate jokes, sarcasm, love of caffeine, 80s and 90s office sing alongs (in monotone) and general silliness.

YOU DO YOU is the perfect combination of all three of us and our passion for females kicking arse. We are strong believers in bringing the playground to the boredroom (not a spelling mistake) and are living proof that just because you have a silly personality doesn’t mean you are not capable of doing an amazing job, it just means you do it a little differently.

YOU DO YOU is all about finding your Crew of people.

Don’t worry, we know it’s a little scary to admit that you are a little different and it takes, what society would call, courage but it is a completely liberating feeling when you 110% accept yourself for WHO YOU ARE!

“Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage and I promise you something great will happen” - We Bought a Zoo

This quote pretty much sums up how YOU DO YOU was born. The three of us were sitting around one day joking about making this business a reality when BOOM. Our 20 seconds of insane courage came then and there with 4 little words, Why the heck not?

We started the business that day and are so incredibly proud of what we have done so far and so insanely excited for what the future holds for the crew.

But it is important to understand that whilst our 20 seconds seems like it was overly out there, many many steps of courage along the way lead us here and every day people are having their very own 20 seconds. For some that 20 seconds can be the difference in getting up to take a shower, answer that “no caller ID” phone call, to say hello to that stranger they walked past or even what shoes to wear for the day.

Life is a jumble of courage and fate and the two work concurrently to form the best and worst parts of your life. Those moments of courage that you have each and every day will form those moments that you remember in years to come, they are the moments that shape who you are and who you are destined to be. They shape how you react to situations and how people react towards you.

In a society that is built on the power of now and having everything at your fingertips plus add the juggernaut of social media, it is easy to see how simple it is to lose yourself within the sea and conform. It is easy to be the person that goes along with the rest of the crowd for fear or standing out when you are shy, for being the black sheep, the square peg in the round hole, the one willing to stand up and stand out for your own quirks. In a world run by the fear of missing out (FOMO) and needing everything yesterday, it is easy to lose who you know you are.

But when you stop worrying so much about who society says you SHOULD be and you start living your truth, you are rewarded and you will find the people that you belong with on this crazy journey of life.

The YOU DO YOU Crew members all have their own story and a story that they share together. They have fallen apart and rebuilt themselves over and over, sometimes without even knowing it. There have been hard days, broken hearts, visits to struggle street and long walks down hallways of mirrors but now in the space we are in there is NOTHING we would change. Why not? Because for each and every one of those moments were 100 times more moments of happy tears, stupidity, monotone singalongs and finding a crew (family and friends) that wholeheartedly and unapologetically accept us for who we are - quirks and all!

Welcome to the crew! The courageous, confident, game changers who look forward to changing the future and the GIANT dreams of the little people who will one day stand where we are!

We leave you on this little note from E.E Cummings, and the YOU DO YOU Crew could not agree more.

“It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are”

See You Next Tuesday,
